Our Story: The Making of a Modern Madison Florist
Riverside Botanicals is the heart-to-heart creation of local floral designer Stephanie Freimark and nature writing instructor Troy Hess. Stephanie and Troy bring with them decades of dedicated work in their respective fields—rooted in tradition, but driven by innovation.
Stephanie draws upon her ample experience as a floral designer for shops in Madison, Milwaukee, and Boston to create awe-inspiring floral pieces for a variety of occasions. She’s passionate about exploring textures, colors, and designs with a keen eye for detail and playfulness that take her works from simple decor to an expression of art.
In addition to his work at Riverside Botanicals, Troy teaches wellbeing, eco-literacy, and nature poetry both as an associate professor at the college level and through his own small local business, On the Yahara Writing Center. He enjoys finding ways to mix both pursuits, such as occasionally hosting workshops that meld poetry writing with botanical projects.
Riverside Botanicals creates floral work that is thoughtful, intentional, and never formulaic. Each arrangement is designed from the ground up at their Madison studio, and shaped by close collaboration and careful listening, rather than templates or trends. As a small local business, Stephanie and Troy take pride in building lasting relationships with their clients and creating work that reflects both the people they serve and the moments being marked.
